WHAT IS THE SKILLS CHALLENGE?
RW Allen Construction developed and hosts the East Georgia Workforce Development Alliance Skills Challenge. The EGWDA Skills Challenge is a regional skills competition between high school students and focuses on plumbing, welding, carpentry, electrical, and masonry. The regional Skills Challenge is being used as a template by AGC throughout the State of Georgia.
The Skills Challenge is designed as a regional competition between high schools that takes place before the state competition. Any excess money raised through sponsorships is redistributed to the schools for the benefit of purchasing construction supplies for the classroom and funding travel and expenses to the state competition in Atlanta. This event alleviates the financial burden of engaging students in the construction industry.
The purpose of the event:
- help students prepare for the state competition;
- excite students about the skilled trade industry;
- connect students with local businesses; and
- help students find employment opportunities.
