On November 14, 2019, the Georgia Workforce Development Alliance held its annual Skills Challenge. High School students from these schools competed in multiple skilled trade categories such as, carpentry, plumbing, welding, masonry, and electrical.
The goal of the event is to expose soon-to-be adults to the skilled trade workforce and hopefully spark enough interest to encourage them to pursue a career in such a field.
Through this event, the Associated General Contractors of Georgia the more than 500 attendees and participants are encouraged to consider the construction industry as a career path. R.W. Allen Co. President, Scott Clark says, “There are all kinds of lucrative careers in our industry that nobody really knows about and I think from my experience in the last 36 years we’ve done a disservice to our industry by not marketing our industry effectively. That’s got to chance for us to be successful in the future.”
The competition wrapped up Thursday afternoon. Evans High School took home the overall win, earning the Construction Cup.
