R. W. Allen constructed this 36,000 sq. ft. student dormitory for the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie in an effort to bring in students from outside of the local community to the Salkehatchie campus.
The building has twenty-seven units that house more than one-hundred students. Individual units feature bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchenettes, and common living space.
The USC Salkehatchie Student Housing project was constructed using conventional foundations, wood structural framing, pre-fabricated wood trusses and lightweight gypsum floors. The exterior is finished with split face cmu, brick veneer, cement board siding and an architectural metal roof.
The new housing will help promote the campus and provide support for local businesses.
