Prior to R.W. Allen Construction’s involvement at Taylor BMW, the city of Evans, Georgia experienced a 100-year rain event that was a catalyst in a roof collapse to one of the establishment’s service areas. Upon investigation into the entire facility, R.W. Allen found a litany of issues, from underground water retention failure, to flooring issues, all the way up to piping failures in the ceilings; all caused by a previous contractor. R.W. Allen was not only tasked with repairing the roof collapse, but assessing, remediating, and completing the prior contractor’s scope. Throughout the entire process, R.W. Allen’s work allowed Taylor BMW to remain in operation. The project team consistently tackled daily issues, for example, the main electrical room that provided power to the entire facility was located in the collapsed area and therefore needed to be protected. The crew got straight to work devising a plan that successfully led to the creation of a room within a room to house the electrical area while demolition commended. Since the collapsed area was flanked by structures on either side, R.W. Allen had the task of keep the standing structures in place while demoliting the collapsed service area. When renovation began and after going through multiple designs with the architects and the owner, it was decided to use structural steel, rather than the previously used, pre-engineered steal. Moving away from the building and the piping and retention systems below ground, the project team had to replace approximately ninety percent of the existing storm system, including the installation of a second detention system.
