Classic Center

Athens, Georgia

Project Description

R. W. Allen served as the contractor on a large renovation and expansion project at the Classic Center, a multi-use convention center located in the heart of downtown Athens, GA.

In an existing courtyard between two buildings, R. W. Allen built a large atrium with vaulted ceilings and arched windows to serve as the Classic Center’s primary organizing element and main lobby space. In addition, the Exhibition Hall addition was expanded by 42,000 square feet to house larger concerts, conferences, and other functions. The new Exhibition Hall is a total of 85,000 sq. ft. and can be divided into two spaces of equal size. Smaller pre-function spaces were also constructed to facilitate the flow of people during events.

As part of the scope, retail space was included on the street level of the expansion to house area businesses.

Additional upgrades include HVAC systems, controls and Audio/Visual systems, and a new hardscape entrance to the building.
