Project Description

The Aiken SPCA project consists of a new 20,750 square foot state-of-the-art animal care facility.  The building is constructed with load bearing CMU walls supporting wood trusses, architectural shingle roofing, and cement board siding.  The interior space is comprised of housing for dogs, cats, and small animals, a pet visitation area, an SPCA store, training and class rooms, offices and surgical facilities.  Special attention was given to energy efficiency to keep the owners’ operating expenses at a minimum.  The SPCA building has several energy efficient features such as low maintenance landscaping, Solatube skylights, solar hot water heaters, and a deep-well geo-thermal HVAC system.
